Cactus Joe | Iron Sign
Cactus Joe started as a joke between my father and I. It was a tribute to his name and the plants that graced his 20+ acre of property in Mountain Home, Texas. The name stuck with the family and as his 75th birthday approached, it served as inspiration for his gift.
Coffee Stained Sketches
We’re a blended family. With the Cactus Joe logo I wanted to create something that could represent all our family members, with my father as the root. I sketched a few ideas and mostly looked at different nopal cactus for shape and variation.
Inspiration
The base represents my father. As the nopal grows upward, the three pads growing from the base represent my three half siblings. Pads and buds growing from those represent the grandchildren and the great grandchildren, respectively. The pad growing towards the right of the base represents my mother and I.
Installation
The design chosen evoked a family tree and the round shape also gave it a homey feel. The sign also features the year my dad bought the land. Safe to say, he was very surprised and happy with the result!
