Floral Farms + Neighbors United | Logo
Floral Farms is a thriving residential neighborhood in the southernmost part of Dallas. It is home to a vibrant and diverse multigenerational community with agricultural roots. For nearly a decade, this neighborhood was plagued with the growing "shingle mountain" site, a dumping ground for discarded shingles and roofing material that eventually skyrocketed into a 6 story building. Their long battle has resulted in the complete removal and cleanup of the site making way for a fresh start for the neighborhood.

To celebrate the one year anniversary of the removal of the mountain, a series of events organized by community members and equal housing advocates in February. Representatives from these advocacy groups reached out to me for a t-shirt logo design that would capture the spirit of the community as well as brand the organization as they continue to fundraise for a community park to be built in the place of shingle mountain.
Concepts
It was crucial to include the name of the neighborhood organization as well as touching the groups agricultural roots and their ties to the city. At the southermost part of where the neighborhood sits, the skyline of Dallas can be seen from each neighbors house.
Flowers are significant in the logo as they call on Floral Farms namesake. The area has housed flower nurseries and farm life since the 1920s. Marigolds in particular can symbolize power, strength, and light that lives inside of a person which captured the spirit of community members and tied to some cultural roots.
Finally, various farm life was also important to include as horses, goats, sheep, and chicken are known to roam the front yards of the community.
Bringing all these ideas and concepts into one cohesive logo was a challenge to ensure all aspects of the community were represented accurately.
Mock Up
Once the team settled on a silhouette, it was time to bring the colors together and give a mock up for their tshirt. Shirts will be used as branding material as the group continues to advocate for a park to be built in the place where shingle mountain once stood.
