The main idea behind the design of the medal was to remind citizens to properly dispose of their trash during Fiesta events while incorporating the initiative’s slogan “Don’t Let Litter Trash Your River”.
The large Styrofoam cup central in every medal design was inspired by a promotional commercial used for the Trash Initiative. Other common fiesta trash pieces such as the confetti, trash bags, and aluminum cans are incorporated into the design. Abstract waves and blue green colors are meant to convey movement and flow of the river.
Final
The chosen concept drives the message of keeping the river free of litter. The two-piece charm medal creates a separation between a clean and healthy river and unwanted trash pieces through the slogan parting the trash from the river. Bright colors and artistic takes on the river and trash are reminiscent of the San Antonio culture and the vibrance of fiesta.
