San Pedro Creek Culture Park 2023 Fiesta Medal - "Art, Culture, Nature"
The San Pedro Creek Culture Park 2023 Medal concept stems from the culture park’s guiding principles “Art, Culture, Nature” while also highlighting the Completion of Phase 1 which opened in October 2022. The medal is inspired by the Five Panel Mural: La Gloriosa Historia de San Pedro Creek On My Mind: A Story in Five Episodes by Kathy and Lionel Sosa and incorporates elements from the piece such as the interlocking golden rings, red dahlia flowers, and an indigenous woman from the mural. The medal also features different symbols that can be seen throughout the culture park such as the St. James AMEC Site Footprint (Culture), STREAM - the interactive microphone sculpture (Art), and a Yellow Crowned Night Heron (Nature).
Sketch
This design was heavily inspired by the 5 Panel Mural at San Pedro Creek. One of the elements that connects all the panels together is the intertwining golden rings across each background. Red Flowers reminiscent of a red dahlia also acted as a perfect connection to tie all the different areas together while also playing up the large nature component of the park.  It was important to make the medal as compact as possible and feature as much of the park between it's interlocking designs.
